For the second consecutive year I was lucky enough to spend a few days up
Hell roaring Creek. This year, Chuck and
Ched were able to experience a true
back country fishing trip. After a six hour
horseback approach we were at the
deluxe accommodations of a
back country camp.
Every morning we would hop on the h
orses to visit a
different stretch of stream. Three weight rods were the order of the trip. Anything more might seem
overpowering, but when a fifteen inch Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout
eats your
beetle, watch out. The small rods were just enough to handle the big ones without
overpowering the 10
inchers.

Chuck and
Ched were a joy to fish with and we
Hope to enjoy many more trips together. Sam was our cook and did an
excellent job as did Chris our Wrangler.

Plenty of firewood was on the agenda as the nights were cool. The camp is well above 7000 feet.

This odd structure was used
to pass the time and learn how to throw a
lasso.

From the seat next to the campfire I
caught a fish in Elk Creek.
Ched caught this nice
Cutty. We caught all our fish on dries... and we caught a bunch of them. On the second day we decided to keep track. We
brought 137 fish to hand. That was for two anglers.

The black stimulator was all you needed in your
fly box.

The riding was half the fun. I did have a nice bucking
experience as my horse took off through the woods. I tried what Chris had suggested and tuned the horse sharply.
Unfortunately I turned him toward my
fanny pack which had become unbuckled and spooked him in the first place. He bucked strait into the air and took off into the
dead fall. Luckily I was able to loose my fanny pack and calm the horse. I don't think I'll take up rodeo.
